The Boys on Cherry Street is a collection of stories both humorous and heroic. The stories start with the zany and outrageous antics of the author and his college friends and continues through his U.S. Marine Corps training, flight school and service in Vietnam. There are many great books written about the Vietnam War—its heroes, their courage and sacrifice. However, this book is different in that it also shows the keen sense of humor that some men showed in some of the most stressful situations imaginable. It was this sense of humor that Boehm believe was part of their coping mechanism that got them through the tense situations of combat. The book is a salute to the young men of the Vietnam War Era who answered their country’s call.

Ron Boehm's story of his personal experiences as a Marine Corps fighter bomber pilot in Vietnam from Oct. 1969 to Aug. 1970 provides interesting insight into this war. His story begins with his rowdy college days at a small school in rural Louisiana in the mid 1960s. Faced with a decision on military service following graduation Ron's choice of Marine aviation turns out to be a fortuitous one. He quickly grows and matures in the rigorous Marine officer training regime and goes on to excel in flight training. At war in his A-6 all weather fighter bomber he skillfully and carefully complete his tour without injury. The most frustrating part of this book for me was the authors extensive use of asides that were sometimes only marginally related to the story at hand. I found I could skip these "off topic" wonderings and keep the primary story moving faster. This writing diversionary writing style reminded me of the Seinfeld show where Mr. Peterman buys personal stories from Kramer for Elaine to use in his biography. The padding does not help tell the story.Product details

The Boys on Cherry Street From the Crazy Innocence of College to the Loss of Innocence in Vietnam Ron Boehm 9780990820505 Books Reviews
My daughter got me this book and I must say its been one of the best reads that I have had in a long time, From his youth and college days the stories had me laughing out loud. Having served in Vietnam, I found myself going back in time when I was a young Marine over their. I recommend this book and would rate 5 stars.
Ron used a collection of remembered incidents from his younger days and made one feel as though you were part of the stories. And being a veteran from that time frame, in a sense I was part of the passing scene from college and Vietnam.
Ronny did a great job - A great read and brought back fond memories from my time at Da Nang. Any aviator that was there will enjoy and relate to it.

Interesting read on going from high school to an exciting tour in Vietnam. Teen to USMC pilot and officer. Good read that I enjoyed.
Great book
A good read. Funny if you were there.
I got this book because of the title, "Boys of Cherry Street" , thinking it was written by one of my fraternity brothers from USL, only to find out it was a Cherry St. from other side of the state.
The stories are at time, laugh out loud.
Loght reading and fun!
First of all, thank you for your service and thank you for sharing your stories with us. A very smooth flowing read of college boys moving to the realities of military service during war time. Many anecdotal accounts of life from a young man coming from humble roots in the New Orleans area. Never bragging or apologizing, just telling his story and stories of others in his acquaintance, reminds you of sitting around the table, relaxing with a beverage and having a cousin sharing stories with you. I found it a very down to earth accounting of his life during a time in America where standards and values were changing.
